ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan increased petrol prices once again on October 6, following an earlier hike announced three days prior. The new petrol rate is Rs393.64 per litre, up Rs0.88 from the previous level. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This adjustment came after the price rise on October 3, when petrol was Rs392.76 and diesel Rs399.64. The current rates replace those figures for the October 6 pricing period.

On October 3, petrol was raised by Rs2.10 from Rs390.66 per litre. Diesel increased by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division attributed the changes to movements in international fuel prices and other factors such as benchmark rates, premiums, and related costs. Taxes and duties also influence Pakistan’s fuel prices. The federal government currently taxes Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.
The October 6 adjustment shifted diesel prices downward while petrol continued to rise. Petrol increased by Rs0.88 from the October 3 level. Diesel, however, decreased by Rs1.88 after its smaller increase three days earlier. Compared with October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher. Diesel is Rs1.58 lower over the same period. This latest change widened the price gap between the two main transport fuels sold in Pakistan.
Frequent Fuel Price Changes Due to Daily Adjustments
Pakistan adopted a daily fuel pricing system in July, replacing weekly revisions used earlier. This allows prices to respond more swiftly to international market shifts. Fuel prices can now increase or decrease on consecutive days. It’s also possible for petrol and diesel to move in opposite directions during the same review. The October 6 decision clearly demonstrated this pattern. Petrol rose, while diesel declined. The Petroleum Division still announces the revised rates for each period.
Despite recent increases, fuel prices are still well below their 2026 peaks. Petrol hit Rs458.41 per litre on April 3. Diesel rose to Rs520.35 per litre during the same period. Earlier in March, petrol was near Rs266 per litre, and diesel was close to Rs281. The latest figures show petrol is Rs64.77 below its April high, while diesel is Rs122.59 lower than its peak. These numbers indicate a significant drop from earlier this year.
Transport Fuels Continue to Play a Critical Role
Petrol is extensively used in cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan. High-speed diesel is primarily used by trucks, buses, generators, and other commercial machinery. These fuels impact different sectors of the transport and energy industries. Their prices also influence consumers and businesses since fuel costs directly affect daily operational expenses. The federal government imposes duties and taxes on both fuels as part of the national petroleum pricing framework.
For October 6, petrol costs Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is Rs397.76 per litre. These rates replace the October 3 figures of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64. The latest change adds Rs0.88 to petrol and cuts diesel by Rs1.88. It continues the pattern of frequent adjustments under the daily pricing system. The October 3 increase was the starting point for this movement, with the October 6 revision establishing the current retail rates.
