CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing notable upgrades in camera technology, battery capacity, and processing performance. Both models are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and feature a redesigned vapor chamber for consistent performance. Apple also introduced a smaller Dynamic Island and advanced camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders open on September 12, and sales begin on September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

A major camera update is the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Six internal blades enable the lens to shift between four aperture levels. Users can manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. A histogram displays exposure levels while framing a scene. The new imaging system adds texture and grain controls to Photographic Styles. Video users can also apply Cinematic effects after recording.
Apple has introduced Reference Image for users needing to verify whether a photograph has been edited. This opt-in feature captures signed sensor data when a picture is taken in Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute then processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Apple plans to add support for the SynthID standard through a software update later this year. Image metadata will provide another method to detect AI-generated or altered images.
Variable aperture offers photographers greater control
The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometer process and combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU can perform up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores for AI tasks. A new thermal design places the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber. Apple states this setup can deliver up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation.
Battery capacity has also increased, especially on models that use only eSIM. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback. The iPhone 18 Pro Max lasts up to 45 hours under the same test. The Pro model can reach 50% charge in about 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. Versions with eSIM-only will launch in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI to the latest Pro models
The iPhone 18 Pro series runs on iOS 27 and supports the next generation of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for devices supporting English. Apple plans to add support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The assistant can use information from messages, emails, and photos when users ask for help. It also responds to on-screen content and works with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines processing on the device with Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks.
Both models will be available in burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States. The iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Retail sales start on September 18 in the initial markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will receive the iPhone 18 Pro lineup starting September 25.
